Detroit Terminal Area

Detroit Terminal Departure Area

The arrival in Detroit via Indianapolis offered a view of one of Delta’s remaining Boeing 747-400s.  The Boeing 747-400 is being replaced by more fuel efficient twin engine aircraft like the Beoing 777 and the airbus A350.  Airlines are also switching to smaller aircraft like the 787, and A330 to move to a more point to point routing model.  With sales of the 747-8 and the A380 slowing, and failing to meet manufacturer expectations, the era of the four engine jet seems to be coming to a close.
